On June 18, 2016, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle pulling out of the driveway of a residence currently listed for sale in the Steeplegate Community. The vehicle immediately pulled into the grass on the right shoulder of the road. Once the deputy passed the vehicle, it turned into another driveway, backed out and drove in the opposite direction. Due to this suspicious behavior, the deputy initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle. The Deputy made contact with the driver, who indicated he owned a home in the community. The Deputy then conducted a driver’s license check and searched a log of current homeowners for the subdivision. The driver’s name was not listed in the homeowner’s association records and his driver license information came back to a Greensboro address.
The driver requested the Deputy travel to a home located in the community, which the Deputy learned is owned by a corporation. The Deputy, at the request of the driver, followed the driver to the home, exited his patrol car, and followed the driver to the front door of the home. The driver unlocked the front door. The driver and passenger, who appeared to be filming the event on his mobile phone, entered the home, which appeared to be empty. The Deputy stepped to the door to observe the driver and passenger. After verifying the driver was able to access the home, the Deputy advised the driver to have a good evening and returned to his patrol car.
At all times, the Deputy acted within guidelines, policies, and procedures of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office in conducting a traffic stop. At all times, the Deputy acted in a courteous, professional manner the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office expects of all our Deputies, Officers, and employees.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has released the full, unedited video and audio from the patrol vehicle camera on its website, which may be found here: https://youtu.be/RvHaHPd5ppo
