December 29, 2008
On December 29, 2008, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched
to a location on Branson Mill Rd., Pleasant Garden, NC, where two Hispanic
subjects were waiting who had been involved in a home invasion and an assault.
Deputies were advised by the victims that the assault had taken place at their
residence which was located at 6555 Aileen Dr., Pleasant Garden, NC where
deputies followed the two Hispanic subjects to. Upon arriving at the residence
deputies encountered a third victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his
legs was transported and treated for non life threatening injuries at an area
hospital. A Hispanic female who was brought to the residence by one of the
Hispanic male victims advised that when she and the other 2 victims had arrived
home and four black males in masks and armed with guns came into the residence
and demanded money, however when they did not receive any money they shot Samuel
Perez Toledo in both legs. The assailants ransacked the residence and then fled
the scene with Minerva Sanchez Mendoza at gunpoint however later released her on
NC Hwy 62, possibly in Guilford County. Randolph County Sheriff’s Office
Investigators are continuing the investigation and anyone who may have
information that may assist investigators in the identity of the four black male

December 16, 2008
On December 16, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report in
reference to a larceny of approximately 16 inflatable yard Christmas decorations
from a residence on Muddy Creek Rd., Archdale, NC. During the follow up
investigation detectives with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal
Investigative Division received information that the decorations could be
located at a residence on Tom Brown Rd., Franklinville, NC. On December 17, 2008
detectives recovered 6 of the decorations that had been reported stolen.
Detectives received information from the victim that the decorations could be
identified due to the fact that the victim had put the letter “L” on the bottoms
of these decorations. On December 18, 2008, Clarence Ray West and John Jamie
Kennedy were arrested and charged with the larceny of the Christmas decorations
from the residence on Muddy Creek Rd.
December 10, 2008
On December 10, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit, along with Ramseur Police Department and State Bureau of Investigation,
conducted a search at the residence of a suspected drug dealer, Willis Jessie
Brooks, at 4678 Ogles Creek St. Detectives located and seized 3 crack cocaine
rocks and drug paraphernalia. Charges have been drawn on Brooks, however no
arrests have been made at this time.
December 3, 2008
On December 3, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit, along with Randleman Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit, conducted
a search at 3178 Sharon Acres Dr. Detectives located and seized approximately
112 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of Hydrocodone, baggies, smoking devices and
hand held scales. Charges have been drawn on William Dale Dunn, however no
arrests have been made at this time. The estimated Street Value of drugs seized
is approximately $400.00.
November 25, 2008
On November
25, 2008, after an ongoing investigation, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office
Vice and Narcotics Unit, along with Randleman Police Department Vice and
Narcotics Unit and State Bureau of Investigation, arrested Gabriel Gonzalez
Casas after he had sold an undercover officer 140 grams of cocaine. This
Hispanic male had previously sold the undercover officer 126 grams of cocaine on
a different occasion. A search was then conducted at his residence which is
located at 1137 Loflin Pond Rd. in Asheboro and detectives located and seized
several illegal ID’s. A 2003 Toyota Sequoia was also seized. The total amount of
cocaine purchased was 266 grams. Estimated Street Value of cocaine is
approximately $26,600.00.
November 25, 2008
Sheriff
Maynard Reid is proud to announce that Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be
taking part in a regional Internet Crimes against Children Task Force. Sheriff’s
Detectives have been designated to take part in online investigations of crimes
that target children. A grant was obtained from the US Department of Justice
Community Oriented Policing grant program to fund this taskforce which includes
Randolph, Guilford, Forsyth, Davidson, Rockingham, and Alamance Counties. The
Child Sexual Predator Program is designed to fund programs which will allow law
enforcement agencies to establish and/or enhance strategies to locate, arrest,
and prosecute child sexual predators. The taskforce will include officers from
each of these agencies to combat online predators. Guilford County Sheriff’s
office applied and received grant money totaling $475,960.00 to fund the
Piedmont Internet Crimes against Children Task Force. Investigators from
Randolph County will receive training and equipment to help them combat those
that would hurt or exploit children.
November 20, 2008
On November
20th, 2008 Deputies responded to 5708 U.S. highway 311 in Sophia N.C. to an
armed robbery at H & M Grocery. The suspect’s entered the business around 7:50
pm. The first suspect was described as in his mid twenties, Hispanic wearing a
dark color toboggan, grey shirt dark sleeves with a Los Angeles logo on the
front, dark color pants, low cut tennis shoes, thin mustache, and had acne scars
on his face. The second suspect was described as in his mid twenties, Hispanic
wearing a black baseball hat, a dark color hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and
black nike shoes. The suspects took an unspecified amount of cash from the
business. It is also believed that there is a third suspect who was operating a
vehicle described as an older model dark color Honda hatchback used during the
robbery. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have information is

November 14, 2008
On November
14, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit conducted
a search at 4475 Pliney Farlow Rd. Detectives located and seized approximately
47.5 grams of marijuana, 42 dosage units of Oxycodone, 13 dosage units of
Alprazolam, 4 ½ dosage units of Hydrocodone, and 4 dosage units of Hydromorphone.
Detectives also located and seized drug paraphernalia, $508.00 US Currency and 3
firearms. Warrants have been drawn on Donald Earl Hill. Estimated Street Value
of drugs seized is approximately $500.00
November 5, 2008
On November 5,
2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit stopped a
vehicle for a traffic violation on Hwy 64 E. After further investigation,
Detectives located and seized approximately 119 grams of marijuana, which was
packaged in four separate baggies, and digital scales. Mario Hurtado Rangel, Jr.
was arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail. This subject, as well as two
passengers in the vehicle were admitted gang members.
November 1, 2008
On November 1,
2008 Deputies responded to 5603 Finch Farm Rd in Trinity to an armed robbery at
the Quick Stop Gas Stop in Trinity NC. The suspect entered the business around
04:18 am wearing an orange mask, camouflage jacket, and blue jeans displaying a
hand gun and demanding money from the clerk. The suspect was described as a
white male roughly 5’ 5” to 6’ tall, one hundred fifty pounds to one hundred
eighty pounds with brown or blue eyes. The suspect took an unspecified amount of
cash from the business. It is also believed that there is a second suspect who
was operating the vehicle used during the robbery. The investigation is ongoing

October 30, 2008
On October 30,
2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic
stop on Archdale Rd. After gaining consent to search the vehicle, Deputies
located approximately 52.8 grams (101 dosage units) of Oxycodone. The Randolph
County Vice Unit responded to assist with the investigation. As a result,
warrants have been taken out on two subjects, Julia Christina Hernandez and
Richard Keith Morris. Hernandez was arrested on scene due to having outstanding
warrants for Probation Violation and Failure to Appear. Morris has not been
arrested at this time.
October 17, 2008
On October 17th
2008 the Randolph County sheriffs office Criminal investigation division,
Asheboro City Police Criminal investigation division along with the Asheboro
City Police Alert Team executed a search warrant at 123 South Randolph Ave. in
Asheboro N.C. . The investigation and search warrant stemmed from a breaking and
entering that occurred on Berkley Lane in Asheboro. During the search of the
residence marijuana, electronics and a firearm were seized. Kenneth Lewis
Trogdon was charged with 2 counts possession of firearm by felon, 1 count injury
to personal property, 1 count breaking and entering 1 count larceny after
breaking and entering and 1 count possession stolen goods and property.
October 16, 2008
On October 16,
2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit along with Asheboro Police
Department Vice Unit and ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement), searched a
residence located at 1011 Avanti Dr. Detectives located and seized approximately
5 lbs of cocaine (2,330 grams), packaging materials, digital scales and $727.00
US Currency. Detectives also located several false documents including
identification cards and social security cards. Jose Raul-Ortiz Trujillo, an
illegal alien, was arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail. Investigation is
ongoing with further charges pending. Estimated Street Value of cocaine seized
is approximately $233,000.00.
October 15, 2008
On
October 15, 2008, Investigators with the Randolph County Sheriff’s
Office , and the Asheboro Police Department served a Search Warrant on
the business and proprietors of Asheboro Pawn Shop located at 532 S.
Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC. This search was a result of the
proprietors failing to comply with North Carolina State Law requiring
Pawnbrokers to keep accurate records of all transactions. It was
discovered that the proprietors, identified as Young Me Cho, Kline Cho
and Kyu Mok Cho, both of 6110 Chalet Dr., Oak Ridge, NC, were failing
to keep the required records such as recording serial numbers or
recording the wrong serial number for items taken into the Pawn Shop by
individuals, which could interfere with Investigators from being able
to have stolen property positively identified.
During a
search of the premises which lasted approximately 9 hours, there were
approximately 300 items seized, to include jewelry, electronics,
firearms, lawn equipment, ATV’s, etc. Investigators believe that some
of these items may have been stolen and are now attempting to locate
who the property may belong to.
If you have legally pawned
property at Asheboro Pawn Inc, and that property is one of the items
seized by the Randolph County Sheriff`s Office you will need to contact
the business of Asheboro Pawn Inc, in order to retrieve your property.
On
this date Young Cho, Kline Cho and Kyu Cho were arrested and charged
with Record Keeping Requirement of Pawn Brokers. This investigation is
continuing and additional charges are forthcoming.
October 13, 2008
On
October 13, 2008, after receiving information, the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit, along with Asheboro Police Department Vice
Unit, searched a residence located at 367 Jones Rd. Detectives
located and seized approximately 1.8 lbs (800 grams) of methamphetamine
and three firearms along with ammunition. A 2001 Ford Focus was
also seized. Luciano Tavira Jaimes and Motias Garcia Alvarez were
arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail. Both subjects are believed
to be Illegal Aliens. Estimated Street Value of drugs seized is
approximately $80,000.00
September 30, 2008
On
September 30, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit
conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. After gaining consent to
search the vehicle, Detectives located and seized approximately 23.6
grams of cocaine, 11 tablets of Clonzepam, 15 tablets of Diazepam,
digital scales, a small amount of US Currency and a firearm.
Betty Beal Causey and Wesley Adam Hall were arrested and taken to
Randolph County Jail. Estimated Street Value of drugs seized
is approximately $2,700.00.
September 30, 2008
Randolph
County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested a subject after a three
week investigation into fraudulent activity. The Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office had received reports of fraudulent activity which was
being perpetrated via the Internet by a subject identified as Brian
Keith Combs. Mr. Combs had received in excess of $80,000 in merchandise
and/or monies via the Internet which was determined to be, by
Investigators, fraudulently obtained. During the investigation it was
determined that Mr. Combs victimized citizens throughout the United
States. At the time of the arrest Investigators found at Mr. Combs’
residence Sports Memorabilia which included an autographed Mickey
Mantle Jersey and an autographed Tiger Wood US Open shirt. Mr. Combs is
now at the present time incarcerated in the Randolph County Jail and is
under Federal Investigation.
September 30, 2008
The
homicide investigation conducted by Detectives of the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office into the death of Paul Donald Grainger on September 6,
2008, culminated with the arrests Monday of Grainger’s wife, Nancy
Brooks Grainger and his daughter, Brandi Lea Grainger of 7136 Suits
Road, lot 3, Archdale, NC. On Tuesday, Phillip Lee Mabe and Dylan
Edwin Boston, both of 819 Nance Ave, High Point, NC were also
arrested. All four are charged with Murder and with Felony
Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder and are being held in the
Randolph County Jail without bond. The charges stemmed from a
tireless three week investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s
Office Criminal Investigative Division, assisted by the State Bureau of
Investigation, High Point Police Department, Misenheimer Police
Department and Pfeiffer University, where Brandi Grainger was a
student. Nancy Grainger and Brandi Grainger both had their first
appearance in Randolph County District Court on Tuesday morning,
September 30th. The first appearances for Phillip Mabe and Dylan
Boston are scheduled for Wednesday morning, October 1st.
September 29, 2008
On
September 29, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit
searched a residence located at 5632 Little Beane Store Rd.
Detectives located and seized approximately 1.5 gallons of Nontax Paid
Liquor. Charges have been drawn on Richard Andrews Green.
September 24, 2008
On
September 24, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit,
along with Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit, conducted a
search at 6444 Jimmy Cox Rd. in Bennett. Detectives located and seized
approximately 9.4 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of
marijuana, smoking devices, digital scales and $611.00 US Currency.
Three subjects were present at the time of the search (Charles Anthony
Cox, Sara Jo Burns & Judy Jessup Burns). While there, Kenneth
Jackson “Jackie” Burns drove up to the residence and Detectives located
on him a small amount of marijuana and four Adderall capsules. The
three subjects present were arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail
at that time. Charges were later drawn on Kenneth Burns, which has not
yet been arrested. The search mentioned above led to the search of 6457
Beulah Church Rd. in Bennett. Detectives located and seized
approximately 6.8 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of
marijuana, smoking devices and digital scales. Charges have been drawn
on four subjects, which have not yet been arrested (Freeman, Gibson,
Clark & Parson). Total street value of drugs seized is
approximately $2,500.00.
September 18, 2008
On
September 18, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and
Patrol conducted a search at 1711 Manorview Rd which was an illegal
drink house. Detectives located and seized 612 cans of various
beer and $157.00 US Currency.
September 17, 2008
On
September 17, 2008 at approximately 5:20 P.M., Randolph County 911
Communications received a call in reference to a burglary that was in
process at 1596 Miller Country Dr., Asheboro, NC. The victim calling
911 advised the dispatcher that there were 3 suspects, 2 males and 1
female and that at least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun
and that the suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and attempted to
steal the victim’s vehicle with the victim in it. Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office deputies and Investigators were dispatched to the
scene where an investigation began as well as have a K-9 officer
dispatched to initiate a track of the area as the suspects had fled
into a wooded area as reported by the victim. Deputy Scottie Hicks and
K-9 Inks did locate several guns and a power cord which was found to
have been stolen from a previous break in reported just prior to the
burglary on Miller Country Dr. In addition during this investigation
Investigators with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, with
assistance from the Asheboro Police Department, who initiated a Traffic
Stop on the suspect vehicle, later took into custody three individuals,
Tanxvan Dominguez CANDELARIO, Brittany Amber WILSON and one juvenile
and charged them in connection to the burglary on Miller Country Dr.,
in addition Investigators found evidence linking the suspects in
custody to two other break-ins that had been reported also on this same
date.

Today,
we remember the thousands of citizens from over 90 countries and the
hundreds of emergency responders who were killed seven years ago today.

September 6, 2008
On
September 6th 2008 sheriff deputies responded to a residence on Suits
Rd in Archdale N.C. in reference to an unresponsive individual. Upon
arrival Paul Donald Grainger was found deceased inside the residence.
Upon further investigation, Mr Grainger’s death was ruled a homicide by
Sheriff Detectives and the State Bureau of Investigation. The body was
taken to Chapel Hill for Autopsy and the results are pending. Anyone
with information regarding Mr Grainger’s death should contact the

September 4, 2008
On
September 4, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit
conducted a search of 1838 Hoover Hill Rd. in Asheboro. Detectives
located and seized 7 marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia. As a
result, charges have been drawn on Timothy Preston Taylor and Raymond
Arrington which have not yet been arrested. Total street
value of marijuana plants seized is approximately $7,000.00.
September 2, 2008
On
August 21, 2008 The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report
of a break in at Hunt’s Auto Parts in Asheboro where 2 sets of wheels
and tires were stolen. One set of wheels and tires were recovered
in this incident and Tony Hilleary Whitaker, Jr. was arrested.
In
another incident on September 2, 2008 at the same business, Hunts Auto
Parts, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received another report of
a break in. Patrol units were dispatched to this location. The business
owner had 2 subjects in custody, but prior to the arrival of Patrol,
one subject had fled. Two subjects have been charged for this incident,
one of which was arrested at that time, Nicholas Ryan Staley. The
subject that fled, Jonathan Lee McNeill, was arrested in Alamance
County on other driving charges and as well as Randolph County charges.
August 29, 2008
On
Friday, August 29, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the
North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations executed a Search Warrant
at the business known as Superior Barns and Buildings, LLC located at
4656 US Hwy 64 E., Franklinville, NC and have charged two individuals
with numerous felony counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense in
addition to numerous other charges, which came as a result of a joint
investigation that spanned several months and is still continuing
between the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina
State Bureau of Investigation. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has
received numerous calls and reports from individuals who paid down
payments to the company Superior Barns and Buildings, LLC owned and
operated by Martin and Debbie Peele of 3668 Pine Lakes Dr., Asheboro,
NC for the construction of a barn, building or carport. Reports filed
indicated that after having the victim sign a contract and receiving a
down payment, usually at least 40% of the bill and ranging anywhere
from $470.00 to $13,699.29 depending on the type of work that had been
contracted, no workers would return and complete the job contracted to
be done by the company, which in the reports filed was listed as
Superior Barns and Buildings, LLC. However in the past Mr. Peele has
operated businesses under the name of Premier Metal Structures, Inc.,
and Diamond Builders.
As of press time the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division has a total of 12
victim that have filed reports in reference to having been defrauded by
Martin and Debbie Peele and has brought 72 charges (Felony and
Misdemeanor) against the Peeles. This investigation is continuing with
other charges possibly forthcoming against the Peeles.
August 20, 2008
On
8-20-08 Detectives received a complaint that there was marijuana
possible growing behind a residence on Caraway Mt. Rd. in Sophia, NC.
Detectives went to an address located at 4157 Caraway Mt. Rd. Sophia,
NC. Detectives searched this residence and out back behind the
residence. Detectives located 7 marijuana plants behind the residence
that weighed approximately 474 grams (approx. 1 pound) there was also a
small amount of marijuana located inside the residence. While
Detectives were there they noticed 2 horses behind the residence. These
horses were very malnourished and not kept up. Detectives notified the
Randolph County Animal Control, who came out earlier this week and took
control of the horses. Warrants have been obtained on Kevin Michael
Foland and Tammy Earline Pugh that live at this residence on drug
charges and for the abuse to the horses. Street Value of plants seized:
$7,000.00
August 14, 2008
On
August 14, 2008 after receiving information from the Seagrove Police
Department, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit searched a
residence located at 4871 Ridge Rd in Seagrove. Detectives located
approximately 90lbs of marijuana, numerous items of packaging materials
which included tape, rolls of cellophane wrap, a vacuum sealer along
with bags, Ziploc baggies and digital scales. Also located were 2
firearms along with ammunition, both of which were confirmed stolen
from Burlington Police Department. As a result, Javier Estrada
Vargas has been charged. This subject is also an Illegal Alien.
Total street value of marijuana seized is approximately $90,000.00
August 8, 2008
On
August 7th & 8th, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice
Unit, along with the NC National Guard, flew over areas in Randolph
County and located 13 marijuana plants on J C Teague Rd in Staley in
which charges are pending. Also located were 21 marijuana plants
near Clipwood Rd. at the Chatham / Randolph County line. Charges are
pending further investigation in this case. Total street value of
34 marijuana plants seized is approximately $34,000.00.
July 29, 2008
On
7-29-08 in a joint operation involving the Ramseur Police Department,
the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit, the Randleman Police
Department Vice Unit and the State Bureau of Investigation, after a 3
month investigation Detectives raided a boarding house in Ramseur
located at 7062 Jordan Rd. Detectives had arrest warrants for Billy Lee
Daye and Bennie Snipes Patterson. Detectives located the two subjects
and also seized approximately 21.4 grams of Cocaine, digital scales,
and $145.00 in US currency. Both subjects were arrested on the warrants
by the Ramseur Police Department and taken to Randolph County Jail.
More charges are pending.
July 25, 2008
On
July 25, 2008 after receiving information of possible drug sales on
River Flow Dr. in Randleman, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice
Unit conducted an undercover operation and seized approximately 18
grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and a small amount of US
Currency. As a result, Mary Jane Fisher, Hank Williams Overman II
and Carrie Ann Kirkman have been arrested.
July 13, 2008
On
July 13, 2008 at 3:27 a.m. Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies responded
to a residential breaking and entering in progress. Upon arriving
at the residence located at 738 Morning Glory Road, Randleman, N.C., a
suspect, Eddy Delaney Wright, was apprehended and arrested at the
residence. A witness reported seeing two subjects kick in the
front door and leave with a stereo system and speakers. The
stereo was recovered by deputies. Wright was taken before the
Magistrate and charged with Second Degree Burglary; Larceny after
Breaking and Entering; Possession of Stolen Property and Injury to
Personal Property. Deputies also identified the second
suspect as Boyd Henderson Linder who was charged with the same
crimes. Linder was arrested Sunday, July 13, 2008. Both
suspects are currently confined at the Randolph County Jail.
July 12, 2008
On
July 12, 2008 deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office
responded to a residence on Julian Airport Rd in Liberty reference to a
stabbing. When deputies arrived they Found Tommy Peter Bowman of
Liberty with a stab wound and laceration to the chest, Mr. Bowman was
transported to Moses Cone Hospital. Mr. Bowman was pronounced dead at
the hospital. Mr. Bowman confronted two suspects who may been
attempting to break in to a residence where he was visiting a friend.
As a result of this confrontation Mr. Bowman was assaulted. Two
suspects have been charged with attempted breaking and entering and
murder. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone having

July 12, 2008
On
July 12, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division
responded to a Trespassing call at 1261 Thayer Rd. in reference to
juveniles living in a vacant house. Once on scene, Deputies
entered the residence and could smell an odor of marijuana.
Deputies also noticed numerous items of drug paraphernalia in plain
view. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit was
then contacted and scene was then turned over. Detectives located
and seized 10 small marijuana plants, approximately 127 grams of

On
July 9, 2008, Randolph County 911 Communications received a call
reference a break-in in progress at 3238 US Hwy 64 E., Asheboro, NC,
this being the business of Frank’s Gun Shop. Upon arrival of Deputy C.
Oates of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office he observed a vehicle
occupied by two males located in the grassy area beside the business.
Upon Deputy Oates’ approach to the vehicle the driver cranked the
vehicle and began to drive the vehicle toward Deputy Oates at which
time Deputy Oates reached into the vehicle in an attempt to get the
driver to stop the vehicle, however after being drug a short distance,
Deputy Oates let go of the driver. The driver then drove the vehicle
approximately thirty more feet and stopped the vehicle, the driver and
the passenger both exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
Deputy Oates then chased the suspects and was able to, after a brief
struggle with the driver, apprehend him who was identified as Ha Wan
Lieng Hot. Sergeant L. Locke was dispatched to the scene with a K-9 to
run a track to search for the second suspect that had ran into the
woods, however was unable to locate the second suspect.
After
running a check of the vehicle in which the suspects were in, Deputy
Oates found that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Greensboro,
NC and in addition also located a firearm lying on the ground close to
the driver’s side door of the vehicle which came back stolen from
Charlotte, NC and a broken hammer also on the ground in close proximity
to the area where Deputy Oates had been drug by the vehicle while
trying to stop the driver.
During an inspection of the
business, the business owner showed Deputy Oates where the suspects had
been trying to gain entry by beating a lock off the door.
Deputy
Oates took the driver Ha Wan Lieng Hot, before Magistrate McPherson who
found probable cause charging him with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on
a Government Official, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of
Stolen Firearm, Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Break
and Enter and Injury to Real Property. Hot is in the Randolph County
Jail under a $200,000.00 secured bond.

July 1, 2008 Orange County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately 30 lbs
of marijuana and approximately 130 grams of cocaine, which lead to the
search of a residence located at 7108 Prospect Ch. Rd. Lot 25 in
Thomasville. Detectives located and seized approximately 630
grams of marijuana, digital and postal scales, vacuum sealer with bags,
$1,121.00 US Currency and a firearm along with ammunition.
The subject arrested was Saul Rodriguez Villa, who is an Illegal
Alien.
June 30, 2008
On
June 30, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit searched a residence located at 1802 Grantville Lane Lot 33.
Detectives located and seized a small amount of cocaine, approximately
1 gram of methamphetamine (ICE), approximately 5 grams of marijuana and
27 Alprazolam tablets. Detectives also located digital scales,
smoking device, a firearm along with ammunition and $402.00 US
Currency. Charges have been drawn on Thomas Jarrell Shoffner and
Pamela Shoffner.
June 26, 2008
On
6-26-08 the Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit eradicated 73
marijuana plants in a wooded area off Old Hwy. 49 just outside of
Asheboro. These plants ranged from 1 foot to approximately 7 foot in
height. This investigation is ongoing. The approximate street value of
these plants at maturity would be $73,000.00
June 20, 2008
On June 20, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and
Narcotics Unit along with the Community Crimes Task Force, conducted a
search at 1387 Luck Rd, the residence of Jerry Wayne McNeill. McNeill
was found in possession of approximately 77 grams of marijuana which
was packaged in 9 separate baggies, $253.00 US Currency, and a
firearm. Charges have been drawn on Jerry Wayne McNeill.

June 18, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit, along with Criminal Investigations, searched a residence located
on Janice Acres Street. Detectives located and seized
approximately 30 grams of marijuana and marijuana growing outside the
residence, 2 Dolophine tablets which are included in Schedule II, and
numerous items of drug paraphernalia including digital scales, smoking
devices and rolling papers. Charges have been drawn on Joshua Russell
Foust.

June 6, 2008 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit, along with Criminal Investigations, searched a residence located
at 4028 Chet Dr. in Trinity. Detectives located and seized
approximately 24 grams of marijuana, numerous items of drug
paraphernalia including digital scales, baggies and smoking devices,
and $493.00 US Currency. Charges have been drawn on Rodney Austin
Richardson and James Reggie Towler. Other charges pending further

June 3, 2008, after receiving information, the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested Bartolo Galarza
Duarte, a Hispanic male on Hwy 64 in Asheboro. This Hispanic male
was in possession of approximately 450 grams of marijuana. One
vehicle was also seized.

On
May 9, 2008, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Investigators traveled to
Myrtle Beach, SC for follow up on the abduction case of Maranda Teague
by Charles Teague. Investigators with the Randolph County Sheriff’s
Office Criminal Investigative Division received information from the
Myrtle Beach Police Department in the late evening hours of May 8,
2008, that the vehicle, which Charles Teague stole belonging to Mr.
& Mrs. Myers, had been located at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in
the Myrtle Beach, SC area. The vehicle has been seized by the Myrtle
Beach Police Department. With the assistance of the Myrtle Beach Police
Department, who initiated a search for the Teague couple, Charles
Teague was taken into custody by officers with the Myrtle Beach Police
Department and Maranda Teague was also located with Charles Teague and
appeared to be unharmed.

May 2, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit, along with the Community Crime Task Force, searched a residence
at 6376 Randall Hurley Rd. and located approximately 4,841 pills and
prescription medications. 391 dosage units of Schedule II were
seized which included Adderall, Dexedrine and Concerta. 649
dosage units of Schedule III were seized which included Vicodin, Lorcet
and Lortab. 2,475 dosage units of Schedule IV were seized which
included Alprazolam (xanax), Diazepam (valium), Ambien and
Darvocet. Also seized were several thousand Lottery
Tickets, 22 Firearms, one which was stolen out of Randolph County, and
$3,076.00 US Currency. As a result, Deldon Leach Strider and
Christine Cagle Strider have been charged and placed in Randolph County
Jail. Estimated Street Value of drugs seized is approximately
$30,000.00.

April 29, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics
Unit searched a residence at 2693 Burney Rd. and located approximately
764.5 grams (1.7 lbs) of marijuana, digital scales along with other
items of drug paraphernalia and a firearm. As a result, Garland
Kenneth Atkinson and Melissa Burgess Talbert have been charged.
Estimated Street Value of drugs seized is approximately $1,700.00.

On
April 23, 2008, during a joint investigation with the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit and the Randleman Police
Department’s Vice and Narcotic Unit, approximately 100 dosages of
Oxycodone were seized. As a result, Timothy Michael Clark and
Ronnie Shelborn Deal have been charged. Further charges are
pending in this investigation.
April 18, 2008
On
April 17, 2008, at approximately 4:00 P.M. Randolph County 911
Communications received a call in reference to a gunshot wound that had
just occurred at the BP Gas Station located at 5608 Finch Farm Rd.,
Trinity, NC. During the initial call it was reported that a black male
subject had approached the victim asking for directions and that the
black male subsequently shot and robbed the victim who was identified
minister Eddy Leon Brown of 393 Elliott Rd., Ext., Rutherfordton, NC.
Eyewitness accounts reported that the black male fled the scene in a
white in color vehicle and headed north on Interstate 85 and that the
vehicle had a partial tag of 4915 being the last four digits.
During
the investigation of this incident images were extracted from the in
store surveillance system and was given to the media for broadcast,
which led investigators to the suspect who was identified as Mitchell
Aonterous McCoy. Investigators received information on several
different locations that the suspect may have possibly gone to and
checked each location during the overnight hours. Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Investigators received information on the morning of
April 18, 2008 that McCoy could be located at 612 Cross St. which is
located in High Point, NC and that McCoy should be operating a gold in
color Jeep. High Point Police Department was contacted by the Randolph
County Sheriff’s Office to request assistance in dispatching officers
to the residence at 612 Cross St., High Point, NC in an attempt to
locate Mitchell McCoy. McCoy was located at this address and
subsequently taken into custody by High Point Police Officers who then
turned McCoy over to Randolph County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

April 3, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect
in connection with numerous Break Ins and Felony Larcenies which had
been reported in and around Randolph County dating back as far as
January 2007. After a subject was taken into custody there
were two additional suspects developed and after further investigations
there was enough evidence obtained to charge all three suspects with

During a
joint undercover operation involving Randolph County Sheriff’s Office
Vice and Narcotics Unit and Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Vice and
Narcotics Unit, approximately 89 grams of cocaine and a small amount of
marijuana had been purchased from the residence of 1395 Twin Crystal
Trl. in Asheboro on numerous occasions. On April 9, 2008 the Randolph
County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, along with Randleman
Police Department, conducted a search at 1395 Twin Crystal Trl. and
located approximately 9.9 grams of Oxycodone, digital scales, drug
paraphernalia, numerous firearms along with ammunition, and $874.00 US
Currency. As a result, Zachary Chase Vestal and Carl Leroy Akins have
been arrested. Further charges pending.
April 9, 2008
On
April 8, 2008 during a joint operation including the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, Siler City Police
Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit, DEA and ICE, a search was
conducted at the residence of 3461 Macon Farm Rd. in Ramseur.
Detectives located and seized approximately 3 ½ kilos (3,500 grams) of
cocaine along with numerous firearms and ammunition. As a result,
Jose Guadalupe Piedra-Serna, Carlos Piedra-Ramos, Jesus Barerra Sanchez
and Danielle Nancy Rendon have been arrested. All of these
subjects are illegal aliens. The estimated street value of cocaine
seized is approximately $350,000.

On
March 15, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to
the residence located at 624 Peeler Rd., Randleman, NC in reference to
a residential break in that was occurring at approximately 12:27 A.M.
Upon arrival of the first officers on the scene they were advised by
the victims that there were two white male subjects who had kicked in
the front door to the residence and assaulted the occupants of the
residence while demanding that the victim give them their firearms.
During
this burglary there were several firearms taken from a gun cabinet
which the perpetrators busted the glass out of to gain access to the
firearms.
During the follow up investigation Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office Investigators obtained evidence to charge two
subjects, Tootie Safriet has been arrested and at the present time is
incarcerated in the Randolph County Jail, however one subject is still
at large. Investigators also believe there is a third suspect who was
operating the vehicle which the suspects were occupying, this vehicle
being a blue in color van.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s
Office is presently looking for Christopher Gwynn Tate who should be
considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who may have information which
would assist investigators in locating Tate are asked to contact the

anonymous tip.
March 24, 2008
On 3-19-08 in a joint operation between the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office
Vice and Narcotics Unit and the Randleman Police Department Vice and Narcotics
Unit, Detectives attempted to stop a vehicle containing several pounds of
Marijuana. Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle on Hwy. 22 North near
Greeson Country Rd. The vehicle at first stopped until Detectives approached it,
then it took off. The pursuit made its way to Hwy. 421 entering Guilford County.
North Carolina Highway Patrol also became involved near Hwy. 421. While the
vehicle was on Hwy. 421 the passenger began to dump Marijuana out the passenger
of the vehicle. The chase continued on into Guilford County. The vehicle did
turn around and came back in Randolph County then into Chatham County where
spike strips took out the vehicles front tires. The driver ran on foot but was
apprehended quickly. As a result Paul Richard Stanley Jr. and Mickel Jesse Almanza were arrested. Approximately 2.25
pounds of Marijuana was recovered. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Charged
the driver in their county with several charges then turned him over to Randolph
County Detectives.

On 3-17-08
members of the Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit searched a
residence located at 2607 Old Stagecoach Rd. Detectives located and
seized the following items: approximately 18.8 grams of cocaine, 62
grams of marijuana, non tax-paid liquor, $3,747.00 in US currency,
digital scales, drug paraphernalia and 22 firearms. As a result
warrants were obtained and Howard Ray Richardson was arrested.
March 17, 2008
On Sunday, March 16, 2008, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to
4913 C.C. Square Road, Ramseur, in reference to a family fight. Upon arrival,
deputies found that Thomas Lee Fletcher, 46 years of age, had been stabbed
multiple times. Fletcher was alert and coherent at that time and told the
deputies that he had been stabbed by his step-son, Marque Glover. Information
from witnesses revealed that Fletcher and Glover had been arguing for unknown
reasons prior to the incident. Fletcher was transported to Randolph Hospital
and then to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for emergency surgery. He is currently
in stable condition. Warrants were issued on Glover for Assault with a Deadly
Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill. Glover was last seen by
witnesses walking away from the scene shortly before deputies arrived. He has
not been located as of the time of this release and the warrants are
outstanding. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Marque Glover is
urged to call 911, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office 318-6699 or Randolph County
Crime Stoppers at 672-7463.
On 3-14-08 members of the Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit and the
Randleman Police Department Vice Unit conducted an undercover operation in
Ramseur, NC. As a result Charles Anthony Brown has been arrested for selling crack cocaine
to an undercover officer. The purchase occurred at the corner of Crestwick Rd.
and Brookgreen Rd. Detectives purchased 2 crack cocaine rocks from the suspect
listed. Detectives also located approximately 2.6 grams of crack cocaine in a
wooded area in close proximity of where the crack cocaine was
purchased.
March 7, 2008
On 3-6-08 after several months of investigation involving the Randolph County
Sheriff’s Office, Asheboro Police Department, Eden Police Department and the
State Bureau of Investigation an arrest was made on a drug trafficker in
Randolph County. Detectives conducted a search on a subject in a parking lot in
Asheboro City. Detectives located and seized approximately 161 grams of
METHAMPHETAMINE (5.75 ounces) and a vehicle. As a result Jose Tejeda-Soto was
arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail.
On February 29, 2008, it was reported to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office that an employee of the Super 8 Motel located on Albemarle Rd., Asheboro had obtained credit card numbers of past customers and was charging rooms that were being paid for by cash to the credit cards of the past customers. The US Currency that was being paid by customers was kept by the employee. The total of the money that was obtained fraudulently by this employee was $1,267.85. Terry Lee Davidson was charged with 21 counts of Identity Theft and Larceny by Employee.

On 2-27-08 in a joint operation between numerous law enforcement agencies including: Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotic Unit, Asheboro Police Department Vice and Narcotic Unit, Randleman Police Department Narcotic Unit, Roanoke Rapids Police Department Vice and Narcotic Unit, The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the North Carolina Department of Revenue, the D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Administration) and the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) executed a search warrant at 1406-H North Fayetteville St. in Asheboro, NC. This location was a business called Zeus Audio. After the business was secured, Detectives began their search. During the search Detectives located and seized the following items: approximately 5.5 Kilograms of Cocaine (5500 grams), $27,904.00 in US currency, packaging material and a 9 mm pistol which was taken off of one of the suspects. After the search was over the North Carolina Department of Revenue seized the majority of audio items that were inside the store and 2 vehicles located outside the store. Detectives also went to a residence located at 2866 Grantville Ln. Detectives and Revenue agents seized several items at this location including 2 tractor trailer trucks. As a result 3 illegal Hispanic males were arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail. Estimated Street value of Drugs seized: $550,000.00.

On 2-22-08 in a joint operation between the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotic Unit and the Asheboro Police Department’s Vice and Narcotic Unit, detectives arrested 2 illegal Hispanic males on drug trafficking charges. The 2 suspects sold approximately 289 grams (10.3 ounces) of Methamphetamine to an undercover police officer. Detectives arrested both Marcellino Castillo Garcia and Luis Miguel Garcia.
Estimated street value of the drugs was $28,900.00

On February 19, 2008, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with the Greensboro Police Department executed a Search Warrant at the residence located at 2519 Grimsley St., Greensboro, NC, this being the residence of Brad Chatman Wirt. This Search Warrant came after an extensive investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office of numerous break ins which had been reported as far back as October of 2007, which was occurring at utility substations and copper wiring as well as tools having been reported stolen. During this investigation the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received information that Brad Wirt had received in excess of $10,000.00 which was monies through the sale of copper wire. During a search of the residence on 2/19/08, additional evidence was located which enabled officers to bring additional charges against Wirt. In addition to the charges in Randolph County, Mr. Wirt also has felony charges pending in Orange County, Alamance County and Chatham County.

On 2-18-08 in a joint operation between Vice Detectives with the Randleman Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Main St. in Randleman. Detectives located and seized approximately 54 grams of cocaine (2 ounces) located in the vehicle. As a result Justin Steven Roark and Keisha Hendricks were arrested and taken to the Randolph County Jail and placed under a $200,000.00 bond each. Estimated Street Value: $5,400.00

On 2-7-08 members of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit and members of the Community Crime Task Force executed a search warrant at 338 Pleasant Ridge Rd. in Franklinville. Detectives located and seized approximately 2.1 grams of powder and crack cocaine, digital scales, homemade smoking devices, $514.00 in US currency and a firearm. As a result Gregory Manuel Fisher, Brittany Leanne Woods Jeffrey Warren Marley and Thomas Jarrell Shoffner were arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail.

On 2-8-08 Vice detectives with the Randleman Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Thomasville Police Department in a joint operation conducted a search of 2 Hispanic males in a public parking lot on High Point Rd. in Randleman, NC. Detectives located and seized approximately 112 grams of Cocaine (4 ounces) and arrested 2 illegal aliens. Both Miguel Angel Aguirre and Leopoldo Garcia Diaz were arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail under a $10,000 bond each. Estimated Street Value: $11,200.00

On 2-1-08 members of the Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle in the Liberty area. Detectives located a homemade smoking device on one of the occupants in the vehicle. Detectives also located approximately 13 grams of crack and powder cocaine in a purse located in the vehicle. Detectives also seized $735.00 in US currency. Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken to Randolph County Jail. Harvey Lee Nettles and Tanya Loletha Caviness were placed under a $5,000 secured bond.

On 1-25-08 the Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 3236 Marcal Circle in Sophia, NC. Detectives located and seized 3 Crack Cocaine rocks, 11 Oxycodone pills, digital scales, 5 firearms one of which was stolen, smoking pipes, plastic baggies and $452.00 in US Currency. All items were collected and Terry Ray Hardin is to be charged at a later date.

Kyle Dean Frazier was last seen on January 15, 2008 at 8am at his home 4782 Osborne Mill Road in Asheboro, NC. His wife left for work with Kyle eating breakfast. Mrs. Frazier called from work at 10am and did not receive an answer. When Mrs. Frazier returned home from work, she found Kyle’s keys and wallet in the residence and her husband was nowhere to be found. Sheriff’s deputies were alerted by a 911 call from Kyle’s wife. Multiple agencies have responded to assist with the search and are continuing throughout the night (Ash-Rand, Highfalls Fire Dept, Randolph County Search and Rescue, Carthage Fire Dept, Coleridge Fire Dept, Moore County Rescue, Sandhills Overland Search Team, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Seagrove Fire Dept, Robbins Fire Dept, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, The American Red Cross and West Moore Fire Dept.) On 12-31-07 a 911 call came into the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a substantial amount of pills that had been located. The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. The pills were taken by family members from a 13 year old female juvenile. The pills had apparently been given to her by her mother to transport to her father who lived in West Virginia. The juvenile’s mother lives in Randolph County. After the information was gathered on how the pills were given to the juvenile, the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit in reference to what they had located. Randolph County Detectives interviewed the mother a few days later. The mother admitted to giving the pills to her 13 year daughter to transport to her father in West Virginia. The pills were in one pill bottle with the name torn off. There were 128 Hydrocodone in the bottle. Warrants were drawn at a later date on Kelli Estep Wimmer ; she was arrested in taken to Randolph County Jail. She was placed under a $100,000 secured bond.

On 1-09-08 The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office warrant squad was serving a drug warrant on Mary Jane Fisher at her residence located at 738 Morning Glory Rd. Randleman. The Deputy located approximately 3 grams of cocaine at the residence. The Randolph County Vice and Narcotics Unit was called to assist at the scene. A search warrant was executed at this residence. After the search began, another 1.5 grams of cocaine totaling 4.5 grams was located along with numerous plastic baggies and a set of digital scales at the residence. Fisher was arrested and taken to the Randolph County Jail.

The North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program is conducting it's Holiday Booze It & Lose It campaign, which kicked off Nov. 30 with an announcement from Governor Mike Easley and will continue until Jan. 2. Stepped up patrols and checkpoints will be conducted across the state during this effort. Please have a safe New Year's celebration this year.
