The Randolph County Department of Social Services is dedicated to providing services to the citizens of Randolph County that will assist families and individuals to live in safe environments and to remain self sufficient.  The programs administered by this department are funded by a combination of Federal, State, and County funds.  Federally Mandated Programs include Income Maintenance programs such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, Work First, and Crisis Assistance.  These programs are open ended and eligibility is based on income, reserve, and household size.  Other Service Programs that are federally mandated are Child Welfare Services including Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoptions and Adult and Family  Services which include Child and Adult Day Care, Work First Employment Services, In Home Aide Services and Adult Protective Services.

The department is also involved in a variety of other services such as issuing Work Permits, assisting in Voter Registration, providing medical transportation for Medicaid recipients, and distributing surplus food commodities.  The department assists the Emergency Management Services and the American Red Cross in providing shelter management in disaster situations.

We partner with many community agencies to provide the most appropriate services to citizens in Randolph County.  Some of these partner agencies include Mental Health, Smart Start, Public Health, Family Crisis Center, Regional Consolidated Services, Job Link, Vocational Rehabilitation, the county court system, and Randolph Hospital.  We have staff that is located at and partially funded by Randolph Hospital.

We also contract for and have on site an employee with Employment Security, Vocational Rehabilitation, a Job Readiness Instructor, and a Housekeeper.  The agency works cooperatively with the Services for the Blind and houses a Social Worker in this program.

For Fiscal Year 2006-2007 our total county budget is $22,326,513 and we will serve approximately 30,000 people in Randolph County.

The department has a 5 member board with 2 members appointed by the County Commissioners, 2 members appointed by the NC Social Services Commission, and 1 member appointed by the previous mentioned members.  This board meets monthly and assists in making local policies, hiring the director, advising the director, and serves as a pulse of the community.
